1 “The LORD is my Shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” Psalms 23
Imagine yourself walking peacefully through a beautiful mountain valley along streams of still water. Everything feels calm… safe…. You’re aware of the presence of God all around you. Then you realize—you’re hungry.
In the distance, you spot something unexpected. The breeze gently lifts the edges of a silky white tablecloth draped over a massive table. It’s beautifully set, framed by the mountains like a picture straight out of heaven. You can’t quite read the little name cards placed on each gold-trimmed plate, but you can clearly see this setting is unlike anything you’ve ever seen on earth.
And let me tell you… these plates are something else. Better than any fine china your mama would ever let you touch—if she even trusted you near it. Golden goblets. Fine linen napkins. Floral bouquets arranged perfectly in vases that look carved from diamonds. And the food? A mouthwatering banquet filled with everything your heart could ever want. You will want for nothing while dining at this table. It is stunning.
As you walk toward this amazing banquet, you realize you have to pass through heavy enemy opposition. They’re serving a lunch of their own. Picnic blankets are scattered everywhere, fully stocked with bioengineered food. It looks real. It tastes real. Big signs with arrows say, “Eat Me!”
But it’s pure poison. It’s packed with sickness, disease, poverty, and every lie the enemy can toss to you like a bone. At first glance, it almost looks appealing. That’s the trap. The temptation to snack on this junk is meant to get you on your knees and distract you from where you’re headed.
Meanwhile, your trusted Guide is leading you down a narrow path, through traps, straight to the banquet with the King. The question is: will you follow the Holy Spirit to a table filled with exactly what you need… or snack on a diagnosis?
Some born-again believers are sick, broke, and dying simply because they keep eating from the enemy’s dingy blanket instead of God’s table. Know this: you are too anointed to eat the enemy’s lies.
So who is your enemy? The adversary—the devil. Scripture says he walks about like a roaring lion (1 Peter 5:8). Notice it doesn’t say he is the lion. He just pretends to be.
He twists Scripture to look powerful, just like he did with Jesus when He was fasting for 40 days in the desert (Luke 4:1–13). But Jesus wasn’t about to kneel down and eat from that dirty, matted picnic blanket—no matter how tempting it was to grab some ol’ foam plate filled with half-truths.
The Lion of Judah rose up and spoke the Truth from the Table His Father had set before His enemies. Guess what happened? The enemy fled. And the Lion of Judah dominated. And you can too.
Did you know the word “Judah” means praise? Jesus is the Lion of Praise! Praise matters when you’re walking through the valley of the shadow of death. When Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God,” He was praising God by trusting and declaring the Word as His only source of life.
No other food. No other word. No compromise. It is the Word of God that cleanses us from all unrighteousness—and that’s something to praise God about.
That same Lion of Judah lives inside every born-again believer through the Holy Spirit. Like Jesus, it’s imperative we eat from the Table of the Word so we can stand in the day of adversity. Because in this life, diagnoses will come. Financial struggles will come. Relationship fractures. Voices so loud we can hardly think. Depression. Fear. And on and on.
So keep your eyes on the Banquet Table of the Word. Keep feeding on those rich, healing, life-giving promises—restoration, provision, peace, eternal life, and every good thing Jesus’ blood already purchased for you.
The Good Shepherd will guide you past every trap, through every narrow place, and straight to the feast prepared just for you—right in the presence of your enemies. Then you’ll read Psalm 23 like it was written especially for you. Every verse is like a journal telling your story. All the glory and praise rising to the Father as He enriches you in every good thing.
May your cup runneth over.
Prayer Confession:
Father,
I thank You that I don’t walk through this life as a victim, but as Your anointed child. You have already prepared my table, already defeated my enemy, and already secured my victory. I refuse every lie, every trap, and every counterfeit the enemy lays before me. I choose Your Word. I choose Your promises. I choose the feast You have prepared.
By the authority of Jesus Christ, I declare that no weapon formed against me will prosper. The enemy has no claim, no voice, and no power over my life. I walk boldly through every valley, knowing You go before me. My cup overflows. My path is guarded. My future is secure.
I praise You in the power of the Lion of Judah—strong, fearless, and full of faith.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
