Prayer is nothing more than talking to God. You can talk with Him as you would your father or your best friend. You can be honest with Him because He already knows what is in your heart. He knows what is bothering you. He knows what you have need of even before you ask Him (Matthew 6:8).

Adam and Eve fellowshipped with God daily before the fall. God created them in His likeness and image so He would have someone on His level He could fellowship with (Genesis 1:26-27). God wanted a family.

Sometimes it’s hard to imagine that we can communicate with the Creator of the universe. But we can, and God wants us to.

There are lots of different types of prayer in the Word of God. There is the Prayer of Agreement, the Prayer of Faith, Supplication, and Intercession to name a few.

But one of the best ways to pray is to use the Word of God. After all, God said He has exalted His Word even above His name (Psalm 138:2).

Remember when you are praying the Word, you are praying the perfect will of God and God said His Word does not return to Him void.

Isaiah 55:11 “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth, it shall not return to Me void. But it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

He said His word is sharper than any two-edged sword.

Hebrews 4:12For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Paul left several prayers in his letters to the churches. So here are some scriptures you can personalize and pray for yourself, or you can insert people's names in and pray for anyone.

Ephesians 3:14 –21 “For this reason, I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to  be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, that you being rooted and grounded in love may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height – to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen."

WOW what a prayer. You can pray that for me any time you feel like it!

Colossians 1: 9-14 “For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God, strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.”

Another good prayer to pray for yourself or others. Make the prayer personal.

Ephesians 1:15-23 “Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which it to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”

This prayer actually goes on in chapter two and gives you authority over the devil.

Remember that angels harken to the voice of His word (Psalm 103:20). Angels hear you when you pray the Word and they go to work for you. When you don’t know how to pray or what to pray, go to the Word and pray the Word.

So don’t say, “I don’t know how to pray.” God has supplied us with some already beautifully written prayers we can pray. Those prayers will get God’s attention and get results.
