Have you ever asked yourself, “Do I ever think myself higher than I ought?” (See Romans 12:3.)

You see, satan himself thought more highly of himself than he should have. He believed it was a good idea to exalt his throne above the stars of God and sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north (Isaiah 14:13).  He didn’t submit that idea to God—he just thought he was as good as, if not better than, God. He obviously thought God needed some help.

So how does that apply to us?

Anytime we agree with anything outside the Word of God, we align ourselves with the rebellion of satan.  I know that sounds harsh, but it’s true.  For example, when we are sick with a cold or even have an ingrown toenail, and someone asks, “Would you like me to pray for that?” —if we respond, “No, God has harder cases than this to deal with. My body will heal itself just fine without bothering God,” we’ve just put our faith in our body, which is contaminated by the sin nature of this fallen world!

We just exalted ourselves higher than we ought!  We’ve set a throne to the farrrr north side of the mount of the congregation—even though we have a better seat through the blood of Jesus!  We were seated at the right hand of the Father in Christ Jesus, the Anointed One (Ephesians 2:4-10)! He is the Healer, and He gave us authority in His name to lay hands on the sick.

Yes, natural healing occurs in our bodies. But when we purposely separate ourselves from the Word that says, “Pray for one another that you may be healed” (James 5:16), we open the doors to the one whose M.O. is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).  Exalting ourselves above the Word will always lead to a fall.

First Peter 5:6 says, “Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” Sometimes it takes humility to allow someone to pray for us. But it’s a good way to conquer pride and get over into The Blessing.

You see, God's M.O. is to bring us into the fullness of knowledge and understanding of His LOVE. In HIS LOVE, we find abundant life—both on earth and in heaven. It is not just an ideology or a concept; it is an established fact and lifestyle.

I can never say it enough: we as born-again believers must stay positionally seated in Christ and live in full faith that God will do what He said He would do—as long as we do and believe according to the WORD.  It is impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18)! This means staying humbly seated in Him will always keep us growing from Glory to Glory and eventually bring us over into the fullness of The Blessing.

A Note on Authority: Thinking of yourself as seated in Christ with authority over the principalities and powers of this world is not exalting yourself higher than you ought. It’s when you separate yourself from the authority and seat you were given in Christ—the Anointed One—that you fall.

Supporting Scriptures

Romans 12:3 — For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

Isaiah 14:13 — For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north.

James 5:16 — Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

Ephesians 2:4-10 — But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

John 10:10 — The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

1 Peter 5:6 — Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.

John 15:5 — "Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing."

Hebrews 6:18 — So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.
