Sometimes we say things and we really are not aware of what we are saying. We forget that we have been made in the likeness and image of God and that God created everything with words. That means we create with our words. Words are powerful.

Words we say without even thinking about what we are saying still create. Proverbs 18:21 tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue. That means our words are either creating life or death.

Recently, in one of our services, the Lord spoke to us about this subject. He said it sounds good to say, “Grandma or Grandpa will outlive us all. That sounds like we are blessing Grandma or Grandpa, but we could be cursing ourselves, our mom and dad, our sisters, brothers, aunts, and uncles.

A few years ago, I heard the Lord say to me, “Stop saying, ‘I can’t remember.’” He went on to say that I was cursing my memory. Since then, I have worked on not saying those words. I have banned the words “I can’t remember” from my vocabulary.

Today you hear of so many suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's disease. I hear people say I have brain fog or laugh because of what they call a senior moment. And we seem to accept that as only normal as we age. NO!

This is something we must fight, stand against, and not give in to. As a Christian we have been redeemed from the curse of the law, and all diseases are under the curse. Jesus bore all our sins and took stripes upon His back for every disease. That means He paid the price for mind diseases as well.

In Psalm 23, David said the LORD restores his soul. What is the soul? It is the mind, will, and emotions. Your MIND! What does restore mean? To turn back, renew, refresh, and repair.

Our weapon to fight this is the Word of God. I confess the Word over my mind every day. Here are some scriptures I use.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). I have a sound mind! I say that every day.

In the Greek that word sound mind is sophroneo. It means a mind that has been delivered, rescued, revived, salvaged, and protected and is now safe and secure.

The Holy Spirit brings all things to my remembrance. John 14:26 says, “The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name. He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”

Now I know that Jesus is talking to His disciples here. And He is talking about the things He has taught them, but the Word is alive and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword and has many layers of meanings. The Holy Spirit now lives inside of us. He is our guide inside. I believe the Holy Spirit can bring ALL things to my remembrance.

“For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:16) I have the mind of Christ, the mind of the anointed one and His anointing. I bet Christ Jesus did not forget things.

“The memory of the righteous is blessed.” (Proverbs 10:7

If I have misplaced something, I get quiet and ask the Lord where it is. He will tell me or show me by giving me a mental picture of where it is. If you practice this, it can save you some time and frustration.

I put on the helmet of salvation that protects my mind (Ephesians 6:17). So, I do not forget names. I do not forget what I was going to say. I do not forget what I just said. I have perfect word recall. I remember what I was going to do. I remember what I just did.

So here are some things you might say instead of “I can’t remember”—words that will bless your memory instead of cursing it.

Let me think on that; I will get back to you.

I don’t recall that at this moment, but I will.

Instead of saying, “I forgot to...” say, “I just remembered I was going to....

Instead of calling something lost, call it found.

So, what am I saying? Be aware of what you are saying, especially when it concerns your memory. And get the phrase “I can’t remember” out of your vocabulary. Bless your mind instead of cursing it. It’s never too late to practice putting the Word into effect in your life.

Just one final note. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

So maybe we should quit saying “I can’t” completely.
